My final post for now, man I hope someone is still reading these boards.So how do power levels work in this series? At this pont all fans know that even if you beat someone powerfull they will always only kneel down and get up right away, if you are beat by someone powerful, someone else will come and save you every single time. And even despite this world having magic, some people are just dementedly overpowered for no discernable reason, like Rufus for example... I mean cmon, Jeagers have their berserk s*** to power up physically, Witches have other kinds of magic, there are special crafts that you gain by mastering techniques and such, several kinds of super powerful technology like dolls and of course all sorts of other worldly powerups.So like, how come that people like Rufus are so "strong" I mean he casts arts and swings around a sword, that is literally it, by any normal means, Emma herself should be able to wipe the floor with him, or Fie, or Sara with their limiters, much more Rean in his ogre form and such. So how do all these powers work? I still assume that the church and Ouroboros are by far the strongest groups with the strongest individuals in this universe but apparantely Vita couldnt do a thing against Osbourne just standing there because.. I guess she was tired? Can someone who played III or knows something about IV clear this up for me, or maybe just someone generally knowledgeable about the series, without spoilers if possible. Its just ridiculous that in the games your teams beat some ridiculously strong people and beings only to be beat by some seemingly regular people the very next game o.OUser Info: MonkeySeraph 8 months ago#2Because Rufus is literally Jusis but more awesome.Going by power levelsRufus would be an A rank in bracer terms even during your fight with him Fie says he might be even stronger than Sara.Vita couldn't do anything to Rufus and Osbourne because Rufus got the jump on her and killed her familiar which weakened her greatly.As for Osbourne he is widely regarded as one of the strongest people in Erebonia he is basically Cassius without morals and supernatural powers.As for Ouroboros and the church most of its members are still very much human with a few transcending those limits through one method or another.3DS FC:5000-3248-8965http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S_68aoBXawUser Info: Liveshiptrader 8 months ago#3It's a manga trope and one of the most important things you've left out, innate ability, some people are suppose to be poweful by virtue of just being naturally very skilled. Age/experience, natural skill, special power. A combination of these 3 things determine how strong a person is. That's why the very strongest characters in the setting are often old men that where considered to have a lot of innate ability which is enhanced by their age.The main characters are students, they will have a combination of special powers and innate ability but they will then come up against someone with that plus age/experience which is almost like a multiplier in settings like this.As Monkey Seraph points out Rufus is Jusis +, the master vs the apprentice. It can get annoying how often it's done in the 2 games but then again it is about students and these are obstacles for the characters to grow and overcome.User Info: mademan2 (Topic Creator)8 months ago#4MonkeySerapth - Yea but that is my point, Jusis by himself is fairly weak, even if Rufus is a prodigy at using arts, which are always strongly bound to equipment and your orbment, meaning just about everyone can be awesome at casting them, he simply doesnt have anything else going for him. Even if you consider him training often and all that, which already is a stretch seeing how busy he is all the time and most of the time he just stands around, he has very little experience and no supernatural powers.Him being possibly stronger than Sara means very little because her own strength is thrown all over the place, I mean Rean is almost able to beat her by himself even without Ogre, the class would win easily even without Rean, so how come Rufus of all people is able to just one shot them, there is no way he is so strong.How do you know Osbourne is strong? I mean we literally never saw him fight and know nothing about his abilities aside for him being in the army years past, once again he has no discernable special power and hasnt fought in ages.User Info: mademan2 (Topic Creator)8 months ago#5Liveshiptrader - I get all that, Rufus would of course wreck Jusis by himself, but logically there is no way that the people who already fought head to head with some of the strongest people and have arguably more experience than even many soldiers.But you are right about the innate ability, however this makes even more ill defined since apparantely anyone can beat anyone just by being, I dont know, born better, which in this world of basically supernatural powers makes little to no sense.My biggest hang up about the series is basically all this, its full of super strong characters that are all strong for different reasons and all are seemingly stronger than our already super strong main cast. Whether its Cs or Crossbell arc the strength levels are so all over the place its just impossible to tell how anyone would fair against anyone with exeption of very few characters.Like look at Laura's father vs McBurn, logically McBurn would wipe the floor with him but people argue it was a tie, Arseid is a master of one of the sword styles and that is it, no physical boost or special powers, just being able to handle sword well puts him into godlike levels, I mean what the hell. Whereas McBurn has artifact weapon, demon powers, support of whatever technology ouroboros uses and arguably same skill with his weapon as Arseid. I just wish it was a bit more clear who and why is meant to be on top, like how strong is Vita because of her actual magic, how strong are Arionhard knights as opposed to her herself and such. The characters with otherworldly powers are portrayed as the strongest and yet seemingly Fie's jeager friends could go head to toe with Valimar...
